This event is held within the framework of the preliminary events of the 21th United Nations Climate Change Conference to be hosted by France in December 2015 (COP 21-Paris Climate 2015).
Conference languages are English and French. All slides will be in English.

Topics:
1) Past and present “crises” and water tensions
Historical perspectives improve our understanding of present hydro-social cycles. A critical analysis of past and present water tensions is a powerful tool to identify significant trends, irreversibility as well as contingencies of the past that explain the advent of a given water management model. How, by whom and when were events qualified as “crises”? How were these “crises” governed or evaluated? How may these analyses help in managing the future?
2) Future water regimes by 2050
Results of hydrologic, climatic and economic modeling will be presented for both surface and ground water, at the scale of large catchment areas. They are expected to highlight the possible impacts of climatic and economic scenarios on the availability and quality of water resources, as well as possible tensions or crises concerning future water use.
3) Questions for prospective studies
Within prospective studies, how are the scales of analysis being defined; how are water circulation and territories being related? How do we estimate uncertainties, take into account social and political issues? How to tackle water crises and their consequences? What kind of ruptures are to be considered? What can be expected from “new” technologies? You are invited to submit abstracts no later than January 10th, 2015. Abstracts should be submitted using the template available on the website. After the conference, a selection of papers will be proposed for publication in La Houille Blanche, International Journal of Water Language of the Conference: English and French (no translation will be available)
